The MDS-JA555ES is the finest consumer home MiniDisc deck that Sony produced. It features: * ATRAC Type-R DSP (ATRAC 4.5R) with 24-bit data stream * 24-bit ADC * 24-bit DAC * S-TACT precision clock to minimize jitter * 16, 20, 24-bit selectable digital output * Twin R-core power transformers * Coaxial and TOSLINK optical digital inputs & outputs * Analog inputs & outputs The MDS-JA555ES improves upon the older MDS-JA50ES in several ways: 24-bit DAC with digital output stream that is capable of passing 24-bit data to downstream components (JA50ES was limited to 20-bit), S-TACT precision clock for minimum jitter, ATRAC Type-R DSP allows full frequency bandwidth up to 20KHz (older ATRAC versions topped out at 18KHz). The JA555ES retained the dual-mono construction of its predecessor.
